The 900 series was slightly larger than its 700-series predecessor, weighing in at 2.5 lbs. and featuring a larger back-lit 9-inch screen. The pastel color choices are not available with this line; it only comes in black or white. The 1.3 megapixel webcam with the built-in microphone is standard in all versions, as are the three USB 2.0 ports, the VGA output, headphone and microphone jacks and SD card slot. The battery life improved over the 700 series, lasting five to seven hours, depending on usage. The touchpad with double buttons features multi-touch scrolling capabilities.
The Linux version of the 900 series comes with 20 gigabytes of hard drive storage, while the Windows XP model only has 12 gigabytes. Both come with 1 GB of RAM, upgradeable to up to 2 GB. Both sport a 1.6 gigahertz (GHz) Intel Atom microprocessor and both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. All 900 series come pre-loaded with communication, multimedia and productivity tools, such as multiple IM clients, Skype and OpenOffice.
